Of Kalpa~Kinnaur and apple orchards

Village Rogi, Kalpa, Kinnaur. Himachal Pradesh

Sketched out on a work trip (and filled in later) to document growing, collection, sorting of organic apples. you have to take care of trees like they're your children. the entire village is busy picking apples, with hired labour young men mostly from nepal...carrying five, ten kilo sacks from the orchard to under-construction buildings where they are sorted.

Women in the meanwhile are taking care of guests who have arrived to shoot...or working at home, or at the orchard, or also working at the only tea shop and guest house of sorts with 5 rooms, serving rajma chawal or dal chawal with lots of butter for lunch, or as I can hear teaching at the anganwadi, or also waiting for the bus to Reckong peo.

All along and even all night long, on the shorting machine, apples are popping, jumping and running along into different boxes for different sizes, small, medium, large, priced accordingly. Adani has bought most of the apples from this village alone.  Kinnar kaliash is always watching.
